Trussell Trust, a Christian charity, runs foodbanks that provide three or more days of emergency food to people in the UK who are experiencing poverty. The Trust reports that its foodbanks fed 128,000 people nationwide in 2011-12, double the figure of the previous year. The rising cost of food and fuel, combined with static incomes, high levels of unemployment, and changes to the country's benefit system are all causing more and more people ion the UK to turn to foodbanks for help. The Trussell Trust, which partners with churches and communities, maintains r 200 foodbanks nationwide. Its goal is for every town in the UK to have one.
