Following the publication of poll results in New Zealand’s
Sunday Star Times newspaper suggesting support in New Zealand for a change in the law to decriminalise euthanasia,
Family First NZ commented that any such change in the law could lead to sick people, or older people, or people with a disability, being viewed as a
burden upon their families, upon the taxpayer, and upon society. The organization argued that emphasis should fall more on the right to care, rather than on the right to die, and that these poll results could send a dangerously negative message to young people about suicide and the value of life.
